Lake Norman Secular Homeschoolers (LKN-sec):
is an inclusive, secular homeschooling group providing support, resources and activities for people who have chosen to educate their families at home. Members are primarily in the Lake Norman/North Mecklenburg area of North Carolina. Members have varied backgrounds, as well as varied political and religious beliefs.
The LKN-sec community was created to:
be a member driven support community where homeschool families can come together to organize, attend, and/or assist with activities, events, workshops or classes in and around the Lake Norman area. The more activities each member family offers, the more active and inviting the group will become.
LKN-sec is a member driven group:
this means that everyone is responsible for themselves and their family. There are no board members, membership fees, LKN-sec group insurance or managing of the LKN-sec members. Organization of the yahoo group and all events are put together and posted VOLUNTARILY by individual families based on their own desire to share information and create group activities with other members of LKN-sec in the Lake Norman and surrounding area.
Please Remember:
due to the diversity of families that make up our community all group members and their respective family members are expected to treat other group members and their family members with the same consideration, dignity and respect that they would wish to be treated themselves. With this in mind please be respectful both online and at all LKN-sec events to provide a positive environment which will create continual unlimited possibilities for all of our families.
LKN-sec Email Communication:
Because email is the primary means of communicating LKN-sec information, the following suggestions will help the flow of communication within the LKN-sec yahoo group email loop:
• Clearly label the subject line of your email to make it easier to keep track of any ongoing
topics.
• Attachments are not suggested, if possible cut and paste information directly into the email
or upload it to the file section of the LKN-sec yahoo group main page.
• Make sure all links and materials are G-rated and appropriate to the LKN-sec community.
• Remember: the names and addresses of member families in the email directory database are
or information and use by LKN-sec member families only. They may not be used for mailing
and/or mass emailing information.
• The Moderators may remove you from the yahoo group at any time for inappropriate and/or
misuse of the yahoo site.
LKN-sec Events:
• As a general rule LKN-sec does not support dropping participants off. You are responsible for
you and your family at all times.
• The organizer of an event is responsible for letting participants know expectations for that
event. All participants are responsible for making sure they meet those expectations.
• Please RSVP by poll response or directly to the event organizer to keep group emails to a
minimum.
• Member families are expected to respect other people and their surroundings when at all
LKN-sec events.
• Members should be aware that LKN-sec does not carry group insurance and therefore LKN-sec
does not shield anyone from any personal responsibility or liability.
• Any issues should be taken up and resolved directly with the opposite party involved.
